The Benue State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with robbery and cult-related activities, days after a clash between suspected cultists in Gboko Local Government Area left two people dead.
DSP Udeme Edet, the State Command spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday. Two suspects, Dominic Terkaa Peter, 30, and Sunday Tarvihi, 31, both from Ako-Fate, Ute in Vandeikya LGA, were apprehended on Monday while allegedly attempting to rob members of the public.
“Informed by credible intelligence, our officers intercepted the suspects in possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons,” DSP Edet said.
On the same day, a suspected cultist, Mnyam Ternenge, 21, of Udei, Guma LGA, was arrested for planning attacks on rival groups and unsuspecting residents.
The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the MBS cult group. Items recovered include a locally fabricated revolver, a cutlass, a knife, hard drugs, and a jack knife.
The State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, reassured residents of ongoing efforts to curb cultism and all criminal activities, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to aid policing.
Investigations continue, with the State CID, Makurdi handling further inquiries and efforts underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
