Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has described civil and public servants as the lifeblood of governance, acknowledging their vital role in the delivery of government policies, promotion of public trust, and advancement of the state’s developmental goals.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, made the statement during the 2025 Public Service Day Celebration held at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He praised the dedication and hard work of workers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, noting that their contributions have been instrumental in transforming Ogun into a thriving industrial hub and pride of the nation.

“Public servants are the engine room of governance. Their dedication and sacrifice often go unseen, yet they are the ones who ensure essential services are delivered, policies are implemented, and government earns the people’s trust,” the Governor said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous reforms in the civil service, stressing that modern governance demands professionalism, innovation, and efficiency.

According to him, the state is actively digitising operations to build a more responsive and forward-looking public service.

“Innovation in public service doesn’t always require reinventing the wheel. It requires refining existing systems, removing bottlenecks, streamlining processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement,” Abiodun added.

The event featured a keynote lecture delivered by Senator Shuaib Salis, representing Ogun Central, who spoke on “Managing the Public Service for Excellence and Service Delivery in the 21st Century: The Role of Innovation, Adaptation and Technology.”

He emphasised that public servants are not only responsible for service delivery but also serve as the engine room for policy formulation and implementation.

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, commended the entire workforce for contributing to a stable and peaceful administration.

He encouraged them to remain focused, urging top officials to support and motivate junior staff.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, also expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for prioritising workers’ welfare.

He described the Ogun State public service as the best in the country, highlighting the impact of ongoing initiatives that continue to shape the future of the sector.

Chairman of the House Committee on Establishments and Public Service Matters, Hon. Babatunde Tella, remarked that the celebration’s theme was a call to action, encouraging civil servants to adapt to new realities and harness technology in delivering good governance.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, represented by Comrade Adebiyi Olusegun, commended the government for releasing gratuities, training staff, providing utility vehicles, and paying leave bonuses.

He also appealed for attention to unresolved issues such as the Contributory Pension Scheme and the prompt release of promotion letters.

In his goodwill message, a former Head of Service, Elder Sola Adeyemi, urged public servants to embrace innovation and technology to enhance productivity and improve citizen engagement in the delivery of government services.
