The Oyo State Government has announced April 5 as the official date for the coronation of Oba Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, disclosed this on Monday in Ibadan while inaugurating a 25-member coronation committee tasked with coordinating preparations for the historic event.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier, on January 13, presented the instruments of office to Oba Owoade during a brief ceremony at his office in Ibadan.
Speaking on the committee’s mandate, Ojo stated, “The committee has sub-committees to enable it to coordinate and plan effectively towards a smooth coronation ceremony.”
He further noted that the committee comprises representatives from the Alaafin’s palace, the state government, and other key stakeholders.
According to him, the coronation is expected to draw dignitaries from across the country and beyond, including traditional rulers, government officials, and notable figures from various sectors.
The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring a seamless transition and a befitting coronation for the new Alaafin, emphasizing the cultural and historical significance of the occasion.
