An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, on Monday, sentenced two men—Shibu Abdullahi, 21, and Yakubu Usman, 25—to one month imprisonment each without an option of fine for stealing two chickens valued at N70,000.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, handed down the sentence after the defendants pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
During the court proceedings, the police prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, informed the court that the offence was committed on March 30 at about 2:00 a.m. at No. 7 Ibukun Oluwa Street, Itele, Ota.
According to Adaraloye, “The convicts, alongside others who are still at large, conspired to steal two chickens valued at N70,000, property of one Bello Kolawole.”
He explained that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
In delivering her judgment, Magistrate Fadairo said, “The guilty plea of the defendants, coupled with the weight of evidence presented, leaves no doubt about their culpability. Therefore, each is hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment without an option of fine.”
