Grammy Awards nominated Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his decision to formally join the Accord Party, confirming that he will collect his membership card in Osun State.
The singer made this known in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, where he disclosed plans to be present in Osogbo on Wednesday for the exercise.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow. See you soon ACCORDINGLY,” Davido wrote, while also tagging his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido’s move comes shortly after Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, officially adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The governor made the declaration two weeks ago at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party, as well as political stakeholders from across the state.
Explaining his decision at the event, Adeleke said he joined the party after wide consultations and careful consideration.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” the governor said.
He noted that residents of the state were already aware of the reasons behind the political shift, stressing that his focus remained on governance and service delivery.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad,” Adeleke stated.
The governor added that the philosophy of the party influenced his choice, particularly its emphasis on social welfare.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the party’s chances in the next election, Adeleke assured supporters of unity and inclusiveness as preparations begin.
“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
He further stressed that the party would prioritise the interests of all groups as it moves toward the August 2026 governorship election.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure an inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are cared for. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state,” the governor said.
Formally declaring for the party, Adeleke concluded, “In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby accordingly declare for the Accord Party.”
