According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s renewed intelligence driven approach has led to the arrest of a suspected cultist and armed robber, notorious motorcycle snatchers, a drug suspect, and a murder suspect, alongside the recovery of weapons and illicit substances.

Edafe disclosed that on January 10, 2026, at about 1.20am, operatives of the Ekpan Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, were on confidence building patrol along Hausa Market, Ubeji, when they sighted five suspected hoodlums loitering suspiciously within the market area. On sighting the police team, the suspects fled in different directions.

He said the operatives pursued the suspects and arrested one Gift Ojulowo, 30, of New Layout, Ubeji. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed inside his trousers. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity cult group. He is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Raiders Unit, acting on credible intelligence and under the supervision of the unit commander, SP Akanya Agbogha, arrested one Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, 43, on January 8, 2026, at about 1.30pm. The police said a search on the suspect resulted in the recovery of 36 bottles of illicit drugs, popularly known as laughing gas or nitrous oxide. Investigation is ongoing to trace the source and distribution network of the substance.

The Command also recorded a breakthrough in Agbor, where operatives arrested two notorious armed robbers specialising in motorcycle snatching. The suspects, identified as Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested on January 4, 2026, at about 10.45pm, following a discreet investigation into a reported armed robbery incident of December 24, 2025. Items recovered from them included a hammer allegedly used to injure victims, a short knife, a brown face mask, a face cap, and a handset.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a murder suspect in Ogwashi Uku. Edafe stated that on January 8, 2025, at about 7.31am, a report was received that a 20 year old male had been stabbed to death while asleep along Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station. Detectives from the Ogwashi Uku Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed by his brother, Aliyu Haman, also 20.

The suspect was arrested, the weapon used was recovered, and the corpse was deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi Uku, for autopsy. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the Command’s top priority, assuring residents that the police will continue to pursue criminals decisively through intelligence led operations and visible policing.
