A domestic quarrel has ended in tragedy in Delta State after a 21-year-old mother of two, identified simply as Lilian, allegedly stabbed her 34-year-old lover to death.
The incident, which happened on Monday at Ijanpa Road, reportedly occurred after a heated argument between the couple, who had been living together for four years.
In a statement on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest, disclosing that the suspect confessed to stabbing the man in the chest during interrogation.
According to Edafe, Lilian claimed the fight began when her partner told her he wanted to end their relationship. She alleged that he assaulted her with a cane and smashed her head on the ground before she ran into the kitchen to pick up a knife, which she used to stab him.
“I have been living with him for four years now and I have two boys with him. The first child is three years old and the other is two. On Monday, I don’t know what triggered him but we stopped talking. I asked him to collect the meter from our neighbour to recharge electricity but he ignored me. We argued and he started beating me with a cane. After he smashed my head on the ground, I rushed to the kitchen to pick up a knife,” she reportedly told investigators.
Edafe, while condemning the act, warned against domestic violence and uncontrolled anger, stressing that such incidents often lead to irreversible tragedies. He added that the suspect would be charged with murder.
This case comes barely a month after another stabbing incident in the state involving the Chairman of Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area, Comrade Victory Nanakparo, who allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times during a dispute.
