As Muslims prepare to celebrate the sacred festival of Eid-Al-Adha, Hon. (Chief) Olálekàn Teslim Shóyínká, a former Abeokuta South Local Government chairmanship candidate, has issued a heartfelt message urging the community to embrace the festival’s profound lessons of faith, sacrifice, and long-term commitment.
In a statement personally signed and released ahead of the celebrations, Chief Shóyínká called on the people to look beyond the festive rituals and reflect on the deeper values that can inspire sustainable development and responsible leadership in the region.
Drawing inspiration from the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Chief Shóyínká emphasized faith, obedience, and sacrifice as key guiding principles.
“Eid-Al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering submission to Allah’s command, a profound example of trust and sacrifice that transcends ritual. This sacred occasion reminds us of the importance of placing long-term welfare above immediate gratification,” he said.
He cautioned against the temptation of short-term incentives often distributed during election periods, which he said can undermine democratic progress.
“Let us not be distracted by temporary handouts or empty promises that do not guarantee sustainable development. Our focus must be on leadership that is committed to the lasting prosperity and dignity of Egbaland and its people,” Chief Shóyínká added.
Calling for unity, discipline, and responsible citizenship, he urged the people to support governance that prioritizes community growth and social welfare.
“Our strength lies in collective resolve and making difficult but necessary choices. As we celebrate, may this Eid rekindle our spirit of sacrifice and renewed dedication to building a prosperous future,” he stated.
Concluding his message, Chief Shóyínká prayed for peace, progress, and divine blessings on Egbaland and Nigeria.
“Ẹ kú odún, e kú ìyèdún. May Almighty Allah accept our sacrifices and bless our land with peace and progress,” he said.
