Osogbo – Bola Oyebamiji, former Commissioner for Finance in Osun State and ex-Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election.
Oyebamiji’s nomination came during the party’s primary election held on Saturday in Osogbo, where he was endorsed as the consensus candidate.
The motion to back him was moved by Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Adegoke, speaking on behalf of other aspirants, said, “We endorse Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji as our candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election. This follows the decision of all aspirants to step down in his favour.”
The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpoboholo, who chaired the primary, confirmed Oyebamiji’s nomination through a voice vote.
He declared, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of our party.”
In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji, flanked by his wife, Dr. Shekinat Oyebamiji, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, promised to work towards improving the standard of living for all Osun residents.
He stated, “The health system in Osun State is currently moribund; we intend to revitalise it, thereby reducing the need for medical tourism. The welfare of the populace, communal peace, and progress are paramount. I invite all well-meaning citizens and party faithful to join us in repositioning our state for greater heights.”
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support, as well as to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and members of the National Working Committee.
Oyebamiji also lauded former governors Adebisi Akande and Adegboyega Oyetola for their efforts to keep the party united in Osun.
