A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon under the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja, where a family of three lost their lives following a violent encounter with touts, popularly known as ‘Agberos’.

Eyewitnesses said the family, consisting of a man, his wife, and their son, were driving a Toyota Highlander after purchasing a brand new refrigerator when three touts began chasing them from the Berger axis.

The assailants reportedly forced their way into the vehicle, struggling with the driver for control.

“In the process of struggling for control, the car rammed into the pillar under the bridge before plunging into the drainage,” one eyewitness told our correspondent.

The impact killed all three occupants instantly. A nearby green-coloured taxi was also severely damaged.

The chaos sparked outrage among passersby, who lynched one of the touts. Police operatives from the Mabushi Division rescued two others, who were critically injured and rushed to the National Hospital.

Residents expressed anger over the incident. a resident, Moses, said, “Abuja citizens are tired of ‘Agberos’ and they should be flushed from the society. Now, a family of three is gone. Are you saying I should have a car and still pay for a commercial vehicle to transport my things?”

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary. As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the police regarding the tragedy, which occurred just before 1:00 pm.
