The Federal Government has announced that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Maulud, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Tuesday in Abuja.

In the statement, Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to Muslims across Nigeria and the world. He urged the Muslim Ummah to uphold the Prophet’s values of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, noting that these principles remain essential for fostering national unity and progress.

The minister also encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, while supporting initiatives that promote harmony and sustainable development.

“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He further appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of government policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians, while wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Maulud.
