Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has been assured of victory in the 2027 governorship election by the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje gave the assurance on Monday in Kano, while welcoming Yusuf back into the APC after his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP. The former national chairman stated that all APC aspirants in the state have agreed to support the governor’s second term ambition.

“You will win your second term in 2027. We have spoken to all aspirants, and they have agreed to support you,” Ganduje said.

He described Yusuf’s return to the party as a major boost for the APC in Kano State, adding that the governor’s homecoming is historic and significant to the party’s growth in the state.

Ganduje also explained that Yusuf was part of the APC during its formation before he left due to political differences, but insisted that his return marks a new chapter for the party.

“This is a memorable and historic occasion. Your Excellency, you are welcome back home to the APC. When the party was formed, you were with us, but later political differences and misconceptions led you away. Now you are back,” he said.

The former governor described Yusuf as a progressive politician whose leadership style aligns with the ideology of the APC.

“We know you as a progressive politician from your perception, utterances and disposition. APC is perfect with you,” he added.

In a further statement, Ganduje declared that in line with party tradition, Yusuf automatically becomes the leader of the APC in Kano State, as all serving governors are leaders of the party in their states.

“In APC, all serving governors are leaders of the party in their respective states. Therefore, you are the leader of the APC in Kano State,” he said.

Ganduje also assured Yusuf of equal treatment within the party and expressed confidence that the APC would record sweeping victories in future elections.

“As you are coming in, we assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will also win the 2027 election. APC will stand solidly with you,” he added.

Yusuf officially resigned from the NNPP on January 23, 2026, citing persistent internal crises and the need to safeguard the interests of the people. He formally rejoined the APC on Monday, January 26, 2026.

His return to the ruling party has already triggered political realignments in Kano State, with several elected officials and party members defecting alongside him.

His defection was carried out with 22 state lawmakers, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.
