The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has resigned from his position, paving the way for Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, to take over as the party’s new leader.

Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, tendered his resignation on Thursday, citing personal reasons. His exit comes after months of internal opposition within the party, with several voices questioning his appointment, which they claimed contravened the APC’s zoning arrangements.

Confirming the development, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said Ganduje’s resignation is effective immediately. He added that Ganduje, in his letter to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to lead the party.

Following Ganduje’s resignation, President Tinubu directed Ali Bukar Dalori to assume the position of Acting National Chairman, pending the emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to fill the vacant seat.

Ganduje, who governed Kano State from 2015 to 2023, took over the APC national leadership in August 2023, succeeding Abdullahi Adamu. He was later appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by Tinubu in January 2025, and reports suggest he is being considered for a non-career ambassadorial role.
