The Kwara State Government has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH (Hijrah).
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq congratulated Muslims in Kwara State and across Nigeria on the arrival of the new Hijrah year.
The Governor called on residents to reflect on the values of sacrifice, peace, and justice that the Hijrah symbolises.
“Governor AbdulRazaq has approved Thursday, the first day of Muharram 1447, as a statewide holiday in honour of the new Islamic calendar,” the statement read.
The Governor also urged citizens to remain committed to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, praying that the new year brings peace, prosperity, and renewed faith to the people of Kwara and Nigeria at large.
