The United Premier Movement (UPM) has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for what it described as his peace driven approach to political engagement following his emergence as the party’s consensus flag bearer.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Chief Olalekan A. Shoyinka, the group said Adeola’s recent outreach to key stakeholders, including his visit to Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, reflects a deliberate commitment to reconciliation, unity, and inclusiveness within the ruling party.
The group noted that Adeola’s action is consistent with what was earlier described as “a courageous and commendable step in extending a hand of fellowship to fellow aspirants and key stakeholders within the party following his emergence as consensus candidate.”
It also drew attention to the symbolic nature of the engagement, aligning it with the view that “his recent visit to Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola is not only symbolic but profoundly reassuring,” stressing that such gestures help reduce tension within the political space.
According to the UPM, the development reflects an intentional drive to promote unity, as it further echoed that the move represents “a deliberate effort to promote unity, reconciliation and inclusiveness.”
The group added that in a period where political contests often create division, Senator Adeola’s approach stands out as it “chooses the path of peace and maturity,” describing it as a rare display of political wisdom.
It maintained that if sustained, such posture could strengthen internal democracy within the APC and deepen public trust in the political process, especially as the state moves closer to the 2027 governorship election.
UPM further urged the governorship candidate to ensure that the spirit of consultation and inclusiveness is not limited to political strategy but translated into governance, noting that “the people of Ogun State have invested immense hope in Senator Adeola’s leadership.”
The group also emphasized that Ogun State deserves leadership that will “not only match but surpass infrastructural development, empowerment initiatives and responsive representation.”
It called on other aspirants and party stakeholders to embrace reconciliation and unity, stressing that “the task ahead is not merely political victory but the building of a more prosperous, stable and forward-looking Ogun State.”
