A commercial motorcyclist identified as Nazifi Ibrahim was brutally killed by suspected motorcycle thieves in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday night.
The attackers, said to be two in number, reportedly ambushed the rider shortly after he dropped off a passenger around Alafia Street in Ore. He was shot dead on the spot and his motorcycle was taken away by the assailants.
Eyewitnesses said the incident, which happened around 10:40 p.m., caused panic in the area. “We don’t know exactly what happened between him and the gunmen. It’s just painful. He was a humble man and well known here,” a resident who pleaded anonymity said.
Nazifi, originally from the northern region of Nigeria, was popular among commercial riders and residents in the community.
A police officer familiar with the incident confirmed that an investigation had begun and that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend those behind the killing.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, while confirming the incident, said: “Yes, an incident occurred in Ore. The DPO and his team visited the scene where they found the victim’s lifeless body. According to eyewitnesses, his motorcycle was also stolen.”
Ayanlade added that the command had launched a manhunt for the killers. “We are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. The victim has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites,” he said.
