The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat, an act which has drawn widespread public condemnation both online and within his community.

Shamsu, a resident of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, was caught in a disturbing viral video where he was seen licking the private part of the goat. The video, which surfaced on TikTok, featured Shamsu instructing another person off-camera to film him during the act.

According to Hisbah officials, the video triggered massive outrage among residents and on social media, leading to his immediate arrest on Tuesday.

In the footage, the suspect was heard saying he wanted to “trend” and become famous on social media. During interrogation, he admitted to staging the act for attention, but later claimed he didn’t actually lick the goat’s genitalia, saying his mouth was only placed close to it.

“I only wanted to go viral. I never actually licked it,” Shamsu allegedly told investigators. “It’s the first time I’ve done something like this, and I promise never to repeat it.”

The suspect further insisted that he was not under the influence of any drugs or intoxicants at the time. Despite his claims, the Hisbah Board has ordered a comprehensive psychiatric and drug assessment to determine his mental and physical state.

Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahidden Aminuddeen Abubakar, described the act as shameful, immoral, and an affront to Islamic and societal values.

“It is tragic that a Muslim man would subject himself to such a disgraceful act, ignoring all religious and ethical values,” Sheikh Abubakar stated. “His pursuit of cheap social media fame has led him into disgrace. This individual clearly lacks any proper understanding of Islam.”

Community members were reportedly enraged by the act and had considered retaliating, but a local leader intervened and alerted the Hisbah, leading to Shamsu’s arrest.

The Hisbah Board reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public morality and warned against the erosion of religious and cultural principles through indecent and attention-seeking acts.

“We will not tolerate acts that threaten our moral and cultural integrity, especially when such behavior is deliberately shared online to mislead or corrupt others,” the Hisbah Board said in a statement.
