A young couple in Kano has been arrested by the Hisbah Board for allegedly contracting a secret marriage without their parents’ consent.
Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Commander General of the board, Sheikh Mujahideen Aminudeen, described the union as “un-Islamic and unacceptable.”
Reports indicate that the couple, whose identities have not been disclosed, tied the knot late Wednesday night at a recreational center, with a facilitator handling the payment of the bride price.
Aminudeen emphasized that marriage is a sacred institution in Islam and warned against any attempts to trivialize it.
“The board has arrested the couple and will continue to investigate and apprehend their friends and accomplices who aided the secret marriage,” he stated.
The Hisbah Board, which enforces Islamic laws and moral conduct in the state, assured the public that further investigations into the case would continue.
Commending the individuals who reported the incident, Aminudeen urged the public to remain vigilant and report similar cases to the authorities.
