The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola Yayi, has declared that his Ogun State indigeneship is unquestionable, insisting that his ancestral roots firmly tie him to the state.

Adeola made the declaration on Sunday at the Isaga Day celebration held in Isaga Orile, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, amid renewed public debates over his origin ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Speaking before traditional rulers, community leaders and residents, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations traced his paternal ancestry to Isaga Orile, explaining that his forebears later settled in Pahayi, Ilaro, following the 1862 Dahomey war, which led to the dispersion of the Isaga kingdom into different settlements.

According to him, his maternal lineage also originates from Kemta Odutolu in Abeokuta, further affirming his Ogun heritage.

“My paternal ancestral origin is from Isaga Orile, while my maternal roots are from Kemta Odutolu in Abeokuta. By every historical and cultural standard, my Ogun indigeneship is incontrovertible,” Adeola said.

He noted that the clarification became necessary in view of recent attacks questioning his origin, describing such claims as politically motivated and disconnected from historical facts.

At the event themed “Legacy of Unity and Progress,” the senator reaffirmed his commitment to cultural preservation, tourism development and socio economic growth across Ogun State.

Adeola commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for promoting cultural festivals and infrastructure development, saying the initiatives align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He pledged to continue complementing the governor’s efforts in the interest of peace, unity and development.

“I will continue to complement the good works of our dear governor across the state in the interest of our people and in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

The senator also praised the Onisaga of Isaga Kingdom, Oba Joseph Oladele Olusoji Tella, for fostering unity and cultural renaissance within the kingdom.

“Under your royal leadership, Isaga Orile has witnessed commendable strides in cultural renewal and peaceful community development. Your Royal Majesty has brought together sons and daughters of Isaga Orile from Ogun, Lagos and across the world,” Adeola stated.

He outlined his legislative interventions in Ogun West, listing over 300 infrastructure projects, including 115 road projects, 30 school buildings and 32 primary health care centres.

He added that more than 50,000 constituents have benefited from empowerment programmes such as skill acquisition, cash grants and scholarships.

“Over 4,500 tertiary institution students have benefited from scholarships and bursaries ranging from N100,000 to N200,000. Repairs and upgrade projects have commenced, and Isaga Orile is one of the beneficiaries,” he said.

Adeola noted that the community has benefited from road construction, solar street lights and energy related projects facilitated through his office.

Earlier, the Onisaga of Isaga Kingdom appealed to the senator to facilitate the construction of an ultra modern market in Isaga Orile to attract investors and boost economic activities in the town.

The monarch said such a project would enhance the commercial viability of the community and create more opportunities for residents.
