Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his decision to reconcile with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was driven by a desire to safeguard peace and stability in the state, not personal ambition.

Addressing his supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara explained that though many of his loyalists may feel disappointed over the peace agreement, the realities of governance demand tough decisions.

“This is not about personal interest, it is about the future of Rivers State,” Fubara stated. “No sacrifice is too big when peace and development of our people is at stake.”

The governor revealed that his reconciliation with Wike followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders, contrary to claims that it was a unilateral decision.

He admitted that the political crisis in Rivers had delayed several development projects, but expressed confidence that the situation would improve following the truce.

“Some of you may feel hurt or betrayed, but understand that leadership is not always about making popular decisions,” Fubara added. “The stability of Rivers is bigger than any individual interest.”

Fubara also acknowledged Wike’s role in his emergence as governor, saying, “That political history cannot be erased, but now, I appeal to everyone to channel their energy towards peace and rebuilding Rivers State.”

The governor disclosed that President Bola Tinubu personally intervened in the matter, urging both him and Wike to set aside differences in the interest of the state.

He urged his supporters to remain calm, assuring that his administration’s priority remains delivering dividends of democracy across the state.
