Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has opened up about her long struggle with marriage, saying she has never enjoyed the happiness many people associate with it.
She explained that although she is still married, she and her husband now live in separate houses by mutual decision.
Speaking on the Oyinmomo Podcast, Allyson described her marital journey as difficult and far from the joyful picture often painted by others.
“I must confess that I am married, but my husband and I decided to live apart; he in his house and I in mine,” she said.
She added that marriage has not given her the fulfilment she once hoped for. “Marriage has been a big challenge. I hear people talk about joy in marriage, but I have never experienced it.”
According to her, despite all attempts to make things work, the union has “not been successful.”
Allyson also addressed misconceptions about her identity as an artiste. She clarified that her style of music leads many to assume she is a gospel singer, but she does not consider herself one.
“I am not a gospel singer. My name is Sola Allyson,” she said. “Jesus does not need promotion, so I do not have to call His name in every song.”
