Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has accused Senator Gbenga Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the National Assembly, of allegedly sponsoring negative media narratives against him.
Abiodun made the allegation on Tuesday during the All Progressives Congress stakeholders’ meeting in Ogun East, where party leaders reaffirmed him as the consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial race.
The governor said he played a key role in Daniel’s emergence as senator, noting that he supported his political journey and helped secure backing from key party stakeholders.
“I was here when Governor Daniel was in office. I actually ran against him then,” Abiodun said.
“But when he emerged from the primaries, I was one of the first to congratulate him. I supported him and gave him my structures.”
He further claimed that he facilitated Daniel’s acceptance within the party after he assumed office as governor.
“I held his hand to ensure he was integrated back into the party. These are facts,” he said.
Abiodun expressed disappointment over what he described as Daniel’s response to his past support.
“If Governor Daniel now believes the only way to repay me is by sponsoring negative media attacks against me, I leave him to his conscience,” he added.
The governor also reiterated confidence in the APC structure in Ogun East, expressing optimism that the region would support Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 governorship election.
He added that the state would deliver strong support for President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
