Residents of Ijebu-Ode and its surrounding areas have expressed deep appreciation to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as road reconstruction projects intensify across the town.

Speaking with newsmen, the residents acknowledged that the town had suffered neglect in the area of infrastructure for many years. However, they noted that the tide began to turn under the current administration, with visible improvements in the road network and other essential amenities.

Mr. Oduwole Lawrence, a resident of Tam-Balogun, one of the roads currently under reconstruction recounted how difficult life had been, especially during the rainy season, before the intervention.

He said, “The government is doing well. I love everything they are doing about the roads because roads are one of the amenities people need to move forward. In just about a year or two, Ijebu-Ode has witnessed significant development in this regard.”

Echoing the same sentiment, Miss Dayo Oluwaremilekun expressed her relief over the end of perennial flooding in her area, attributing it to the reconstruction of the road.

“Honestly, to be candid, the construction of this road is a great relief to those of us living in this area. Before now, we couldn’t even go out during the rainy season. But now, we thank God, and we thank the state government,” she said.

On the 12.5-kilometer Obalende-Abeokuta road, another resident, Alhaji Kehinde Moshood Sanni, lauded Governor Abiodun for taking up the project, describing it as long overdue. He urged the governor to sustain the momentum and complete the project as planned.

Similarly, Ojoye Ademolu, who lives along the same axis, could not hide his excitement. “We are happy. We have been suffering before now. All we ask is for the contractor to hasten up so we can be even happier,” he stated.

Speaking on the progress of the work, Michael Umeh, the site engineer for Fort Hermon the company handling the road projects said construction activities were ongoing on the 0.85-kilometer Tam-Balogun road, 1.1-kilometer Osinubi road, and the 12.5-kilometer Obalende-Abeokuta road.

According to him, major components such as site clearing, excavation, stone base laying, and drainage construction have been completed, and asphalting will commence soon. He, however, pointed out that the rainy season has posed some delays in meeting the initial timelines.
