Abuja – Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will contest the 2027 presidential election as the leading candidate, making it clear he has no intention of taking a secondary role.
Obi made the declaration while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Having recently joined the ADC after leaving the Labour Party, Obi has intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 polls. Supporters of the former Anambra State governor, including members of the Obidient Movement, have urged the ADC to present Obi as its presidential candidate, insisting on an “Obi or nothing” stance.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, however, cautioned supporters against inflammatory rhetoric and called for unity within the party.
Political speculation suggests a possible Obi–Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presidential ticket, while some supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have renewed calls for Obi to consider a vice-presidential role. Obi, however, dismissed such suggestions, insisting on contesting as the principal candidate.
Urging voters to support his preferred candidate in the AMAC elections, Obi said, “You see this coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you.”
