Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has debunked reports alleging he is set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the rumour as a desperate fabrication by political detractors.
Zulum, in a statement on Saturday, dismissed the defection story as a false narrative being peddled by those he described as wishful thinkers seeking relevance through disinformation.
According to him, the report, which claimed he would decamp alongside five other governors, is baseless and intended to cause unnecessary political tension.
“There’s no iota of truth in the rumour. It exists only in the imagination of its sponsors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria. It’s a classic example of cheap, politically motivated speculation,” Zulum said.
The governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stressing that his focus remains on delivering good governance and rebuilding Borno State, not on engaging in distractions fueled by political mischief.
“I urge the good people of Borno and the general public to disregard this fabrication. We have no time for cheap politics. Our hands are full with the noble task of developing our dear state,” he added.
Zulum also appealed to media outlets and residents to rely on credible sources for information, warning against giving oxygen to those spreading falsehoods for selfish reasons.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno State under the banner of our great party, the APC,” Zulum stated.
