The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the incumbent governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election.

The declaration was made in the early hours of Sunday by the INEC Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, following the collation of results from the 30 local government areas of the state.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.

Announcing the final result, Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner and returned elected.

The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji, in a contest that saw the two leading candidates dominate the results across the state.

According to the results announced by INEC, Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 local governments.

Adeleke’s victories came in Ayedaade, Ayedire, Boluwaduro, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ifedayo, Ifelodun, Ila, Ilesa West, Iwo, Odo-Otin, Oriade, Orolu and Osogbo.

Oyebamiji, however, won Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Boripe, Ife South, Ilesa East, Irepodun, Irewole, Isokan, Obokun, Ola-Oluwa and Olorunda local government areas.

The outcome marks another electoral victory for Adeleke, who secured a second term in office after a closely watched contest involving several political parties.

The APC candidate’s strongest performances came in parts of the eastern and central areas of the state, including Irewole, where he recorded 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.

Adeleke, on the other hand, recorded substantial margins in several areas, including Ede North, where he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, and Ede South, where he secured 26,188 votes against 6,219.

In Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke also prevailed with 36,480 votes, compared with Oyebamiji’s 30,474 votes.
