A broadcast journalist, Emmanuel Oke, has raised pointed questions over the promises made by Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to Comfort Emmanson, the young woman recently released from Kirikiri prison after her involvement in the Ibom Air in-flight altercation.
Oke, reacting to a post by the governor’s aide, said he found no reasonable explanation for the offer, which included a N500,000 monthly job, an all-expense-paid trip to Delta State, luxury accommodation in a five-star hotel, and attendance at the Delta Social Media Summit in Asaba on August 28.
“Where does the SSA intend to get flight tickets that will take her to Asaba on 28th August, considering there is a flight ban on her for at least one month?”
“What particular job are you offering that will pay a monthly salary of N500,000? What qualifications and work experience does she have that will qualify her for such a job? Is that job in the Delta State Civil Service or other government businesses? You want to pay her as much as a Director or Permanent Secretary for doing what?”, he asked.
He also questioned the authority of an SSA to “secure” such employment and the source of funding for the promises. “He kept using ‘I’. Are these things in his personal capacity, or official capacity as SSA or done by the State Government? Shall we keep rewarding social media trends and expect decorum in society? Is Delta truly the Global Tourism Hub?” Oke queried.
Oke concluded that if the intention was simply to ride on a trending topic, it would have been more appropriate to limit the gesture to a sponsored trip to Delta for the summit, without extravagant job offers or inflated benefits.
In his earlier statement, Ossai Ovie Success had invited Emmanson to “unwind” in Delta State, which he described as “the Big Heart and Home of Global Tourism Hub.”
He said all her expenses, including flights, luxury accommodation, and tourism, would be covered, and that a N500,000 monthly job had been secured for her in the state.
He added that she would not be disappointed and would be given “a good time” during her visit.
