The Presidency has faulted a recent claim by former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has neglected the northern region in its infrastructure development drive.

Addressing the allegation on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the comment as misleading and unfair.

He said the President has demonstrated clear commitment to ensuring that no part of the country is left out in his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Contrary to the claim made by Kwankwaso, President Tinubu has not neglected the North. His administration has undertaken significant infrastructure projects that directly benefit northern states,” Onanuga stated.

He listed major ongoing projects such as the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which he said will connect northern trade routes to southern ports.

He also pointed to the 1,000 houses being constructed in each of the seven northern states under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme, as well as roads, bridges, and irrigation projects in Katsina, Sokoto, Kano, and the North East.

“The North is certainly not being left behind. In fact, Mr. President is making sure the region receives adequate federal presence, especially in critical infrastructure that improves trade, security, and access to services,” Onanuga added.
