Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has urged students to disregard a dress code document currently circulating online, saying it was never approved by the school authorities.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement on Thursday, described the document as unofficial and misleading.

“OAU has no official dress code yet. The document in circulation is not from the Governing Council and should be disregarded,” the statement read.

The development followed widespread criticism from students who described the dress code as an attempt to police their personal choices. Some argued that while decency is encouraged, imposing specific clothing standards amounts to suppressing their individuality.

The school assured the university community that it would communicate any official guidelines through appropriate channels once necessary internal processes were completed.
