Kwara – A renewed wave of terror has swept through Lafiaji in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, where armed attackers struck Mayfold Poultry and Agroallied Farm twice, killing the security guard, abducting workers, and destroying property, leaving the community gripped by fear.

The first raid took place on June 10, 2025, when gunmen invaded the farm. Witnesses said the attackers moved with precision as they carted away frozen chickens, cash, office computing systems, poultry products, and other valuables.

“It happened so fast. They didn’t waste time. They fired shots into the air and took everything,” said a farm worker who asked not to be named.

Another worker added, “I had never seen anything like that. We ran for our lives.”

The violence intensified on June 30 when the terrorists returned for a more brutal strike. The farm’s security guard, Mr Lateef Olalere, was shot dead and parts of the poultry farm and ranch were set ablaze.

A POS operator and a policeman stationed near the farm were kidnapped during the raid. Their bodies were later discovered in a nearby bush.

Surviving workers said the attackers threatened to return for the farm owner, Dr Agbaje Aremu, and Pastor Babatunde Akanbi, who leads weekly Bible study sessions for farm staff. One employee said the attackers told them that Christians were not welcome and vowed to come back.

Fear has spread across Lafiaji and neighbouring communities. Many residents say they are afraid to go to their farms or leave their homes.

“We are scared to go to the farm. Our lives depend on it, but nobody wants to die,” said Alhaji Musa, a nearby farmer.

Commercial activities have also slowed, with traders reporting low patronage as families choose to remain indoors.

Security experts say the attackers appear well trained and likely operate from thick forest hideouts that make them difficult to track.

They advised residents to remain alert and provide credible intelligence to authorities while avoiding risky movements.

The Kwara State Government, through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, assured residents of strengthened security operations across Edu, Patigi, and neighbouring areas.

“The government is working closely with the military, police, and other agencies to secure the affected communities. Those responsible for these acts will be brought to justice. We are committed to restoring peace and ensuring residents feel safe,” he said.

Local vigilante groups have increased their patrols, though many admit they lack the weapons and equipment needed to confront the attackers.

“We want to defend our people, but these terrorists are heavily armed. We need more troops and support,” one vigilante leader said.

The repeated attacks have left Lafiaji tense and uncertain, with many residents unsure of when the attackers may strike again.
