A former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation took place on Friday at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, marking the formal beginning of Ladoja’s reign as the new Olubadan.
Before his installation, the respected statesman received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan, fulfilling one of the final rites in the long-established process of ascending the revered throne.
Ladoja is expected to be formally presented with the staff and instrument of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at a ceremony scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall.
Governor Makinde, who reportedly cut short his annual leave to personally attend the coronation, is among dignitaries expected at the presentation event.
The new Olubadan succeeded the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025. Ladoja’s ascension follows a 32-year journey through the ranks of the Ibadan traditional hierarchy.
Residents of Ibadan and notable personalities across the country have continued to celebrate the emergence of Oba Ladoja, describing it as a unifying and symbolic moment for the ancient city.
