The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its operations across the state, dismantling criminal syndicates, arresting dozens of suspects, and recovering a large number of stolen vehicles, firearms, and counterfeit currency between December 2025 and January 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh Moshood, revealed the achievements on Monday while addressing newsmen. He attributed the successes to intelligence-led policing, targeted raids, sustained surveillance, and swift tactical responses.
According to the command, a total of 25 vehicles were recovered during the period under review. The vehicles were variously reported stolen, fraudulently converted, unlawfully removed from motor parks, or smuggled. Several suspects were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery, conspiracy, carjacking, assault occasioning harm, and threats to life.
The police also recovered illegal firearms and dangerous weapons, including four locally fabricated dane guns, 13 cut-to-size pistols, nine live cartridges, and one expended cartridge. In addition, fetish charms and other incriminating items were seized. Bundles of suspected counterfeit foreign and Nigerian currencies were also recovered during multiple operations.
A major breakthrough was recorded in January 2026 with the arrest of 21 members of a notorious “one-chance” kidnapping and robbery syndicate operating in the Idimu area of Alimosho Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence. Items recovered from them included three vehicles, two Toyota Corolla cars and one Toyota Camry, fetish charms, 21 bundles of suspected fake US dollars, and 12 bundles of suspected fake Euros.
The operation significantly disrupted the activities of the gang, which had been linked to violent crimes and coordinated attacks across different parts of Lagos.
The command also announced the arrest of a suspect connected to a bomb threat issued on January 21, targeting three schools in Ikeja and Ogombo. The threat caused panic among parents and residents. Swift intelligence gathering and digital forensic investigations led to the arrest of the suspect.
Although the suspect claimed his phone had been lost before the threat was issued, investigations revealed that the same mobile line was actively used to communicate with family members during and after the period the messages were sent, contradicting his claim. The suspect remains in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
Items recovered by the police within the two months include 25 vehicles, 17 firearms, 34 bundles of suspected counterfeit foreign currencies, and several fetish charms and dangerous weapons.
The Lagos State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to identify accomplices, trace interstate and cross-border criminal links, verify ownership of recovered vehicles, and determine the source of the counterfeit currencies.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure safety and security across the state.
