The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in his apartment in the Ijedodo area of Isheri-Osun.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the assault took place around 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
According to Hundeyin, the case was reported to the Isheri-Osun Police Divisional Station by a neighbor who had witnessed the suspect assaulting the victim inside his room.
“The neighbor said he saw the suspect beating his girlfriend for reasons yet to be determined,” Hundeyin stated.
He further narrated that moments after the assault, the suspect cried out for help.
“Upon reaching the suspect’s apartment, the neighbor found the victim lying unconscious on the bed, with visible marks of violence on her body. She was rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, where the doctor on duty confirmed her dead,” he said.
Hundeyin disclosed that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene of the crime and the hospital, where the deceased’s body was examined and photographed.
“The corpse has been deposited at a morgue in Yaba for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue,” he added.
