The Founder of The SixthSense Initiative, Abiodun Oladimeji Lasile, has called for stronger promotion of multilingual education as a pathway to peace, tolerance, and global understanding.
Speaking in a statement to mark Literacy Day 2024, themed “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace”, Lasile said literacy remains the foundation for empathy, cooperation, and progress.
He explained that in a world where linguistic diversity is a strength, multilingual education empowers individuals to communicate across cultures and appreciate diverse perspectives.
According to him, this ability helps societies navigate complex global challenges while fostering peaceful coexistence.
“Read, write, and communicate in multiple languages; build bridges of understanding, and forge a path to peace,” Lasile declared.
The education advocate stressed the need for inclusive learning environments that celebrate linguistic diversity and promote cultural exchange.
He added that multilingual literacy has a transformative impact not only on individuals but also on communities and nations.
Lasile urged policymakers, educators, and communities to take deliberate steps in incorporating multilingual education into school systems, saying it was crucial in nurturing a new generation of global citizens committed to unity and cooperation.
The SixthSense Initiative has been at the forefront of promoting literacy, advocacy, and educational reforms aimed at bridging cultural divides and empowering young people.
