The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) chapter, has suspended its four-month strike, resuming academic activities on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
In a statement signed by Interim Chairman, Prof. Michael Olamoyegun, and Interim Secretary, Dr. Ayobami Alabi, the association said the suspension aims to facilitate good-faith engagement with university management to secure the full Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), including all allowances and arrears.
The strike, which began on July 31, was over delayed implementation of CONMESS. According to NAMDA, only the basic salary component has been paid, leaving associated allowances and arrears dating back to January 2025 unsettled.
“Following careful deliberation at our Emergency Congress, the ongoing industrial action is hereby suspended to allow for constructive talks with the University Management toward securing the full CONMESS package, including allowances and arrears,” the statement said.
NAMDA noted that future actions, including possible escalation, will depend on the university management’s response and expressed appreciation to members for their resilience and unity throughout the strike.
The association also approved a framework for periodic review of progress on CONMESS implementation, highlighting its commitment to safeguarding the training and progression of medical students.
