A 60-year-old man, identified as Ajayi Femi, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly drugging and raping a 24-year-old woman in Lagos.
The Lagos State Police Command said the case was reported on August 22 by the victim’s sister and was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit for investigation.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly spiked the victim’s drink, leaving her unconscious before raping her without her consent.
“Investigation, including medical tests conducted by the Gender Unit, confirmed that the survivor’s drink was laced with a substance that rendered her unconscious. The suspect later confessed to having unlawful sexual intercourse with her without consent,” Hundeyin said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the suspect has since been arraigned in court and ordered to be remanded pending the next adjourned date.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offences.
He encouraged members of the public to report all such cases to the Family Support Units in divisions and area commands across the state for immediate action.
