Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike Osebuka has described marriage as a “stupid step,” revealing that he has no immediate plans to tie the knot. The 32-year-old artist made the remark during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
Chike, known for his soulful and romantic songs, stated that marriage is not a priority for him at this stage of life.
He emphasized that his happiness is closely tied to financial stability. “For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even canal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money,” he said.
Reflecting on his career journey, Chike admitted he did not initially plan to make a living from music until after his university education.
He recounted periods of financial struggle, including a time when he took acting jobs to sustain himself.
Chike also shared personal experiences with friends who were unable to support him financially when he was preparing to stage a show.
He recalled the emotional impact, saying, “At least I was comfortable around her enough to let out a couple of emotions, and I remember I actually cried that day. And she just looked at me and was like, ‘Chike, don’t worry, I’ll give you the money, just go and concentrate.’”
The singer began his professional music career in 2015 after participating in Project Fame. He later became the first runner-up on The Voice of Nigeria in 2016 and released his debut single, Fancy, the same year.
