Renowned elder statesman, philanthropist, and industrialist, Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu, has passed away.
The Mayegun of Egbaland breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, 2025, at the age of 96.
Chief Abudu, who was widely respected for his unwavering dedication to education, philanthropy, and civic advancement, left behind a legacy of service, leadership, and integrity that spanned decades.
A devout Muslim and patriarch, Chief Abudu was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. Janazah prayers in his honour today at Nobel House College, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In a statement issued by the family, he was described as “a father to many, a pillar of wisdom, and a man who dedicated his life to building not only businesses but also lives.”
Beyond his humanitarian impact, Chief Abudu was a key figure in Nigeria’s industrial landscape. His business empire includes several thriving companies such as Midland Gas Cylinder, Metoxide Nigeria Ltd, Apex Paints Limited, Architectural Products Limited, Midland Rolling Mills, Industrial Products International Limited, Midland Galvanising Products Limited, and Organic Chemical Industry, among others.
“Chief Abudu exemplified the values of hard work, generosity, and foresight. His contributions to the development of Egbaland and Nigeria as a whole will never be forgotten,” a close associate said while paying tribute.
He is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives who continue to uphold his values and honour his enduring legacy.
