Delta State – The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman for selling her two-month-old baby to a couple for the sum of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦1,500,000).
The suspects, identified as Osas Omijie, male, 39, and Judith Omijie, female, 30, are currently in police custody as investigations continue. The infant has been rescued and is reported to be safe.
The information was contained in a press release by the Delta State Police Command, signed by SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, on 19th December 2025.
According to the release, the mother, Rita Ughale of Kokori, Ethiope East Local Government Area, initially reported that her baby had been kidnapped during a robbery while she was in transit on a tricycle on 15th December 2025.
Subsequent investigations by the Ekpan Police Division revealed inconsistencies in her story, leading to her confession that she had staged the report and sold the child.
The police are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend any other accomplices involved in the trafficking of the infant.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the Control Room at 0803 668 4974.
