Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has described the death of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, as a monumental loss not only to Ijebuland and Ogun State but to the entire nation.
In a heartfelt tribute, the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District joined millions in mourning the revered monarch, noting that his passing marked the end of an era defined by bold leadership, cultural pride, and visionary service.
“Kabiyesi was more than a royal father; he was a statesman in his own right, a fearless advocate of justice, and a custodian of our cherished traditions,” Senator Adeola said. “His ascension to the throne in 1960 marked the beginning of a transformative era in Ijebuland—one that saw our people rise in unity, economic prosperity, and cultural prominence.”
The senator praised Oba Adetona’s unwavering commitment to his people and his efforts in advancing the socio-political relevance of Ijebuland across Nigeria and beyond. He highlighted the global recognition of the Ojude Oba festival as a testament to the monarch’s dedication and visionary leadership.
“As we grieve this monumental loss, we also celebrate a remarkable life of legacy and selfless service,” he added. “May the soul of our beloved Kabiyesi find eternal rest, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.”
Senator Adeola concluded his tribute with deep respect, referring to the late monarch as “Òrìṣà Ìjẹ̀bú,” a title that captures the depth of his impact and reverence among his people.
