Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has emphasized that tourism and cultural preservation remain vital tools for empowerment and economic growth, urging the sons and daughters of Ilisan Remo to stay united in order to transform the town’s rich heritage.

Speaking at the 48th anniversary of Isanbi Day and Homecoming Week, themed “Ilisan: Rooted in Heritage, Rising by Self Help”, held at Ilisan High School, the governor described the celebration as a reflection of the communal love, unity, and peaceful coexistence that define the people of Ilisan Remo.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun said, “This year’s theme captures the enduring spirit of the people of Ilisan Remo. Over the years, Isanbi Day has not just been a cultural festival but a unifying celebration of shared heritage and collective progress.”

He congratulated the Olofin of Ilisan Remo, HRH Oba Michael Sonuga, for preserving the cherished tradition, describing him as a custodian of culture who has continued to sustain the town’s identity.

The governor expressed joy that the 2025 edition also served as a homecoming for his wife, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, a proud daughter of Ilisan Remo. According to him, “Her passion, contributions to development, and commitment to the values of Ilisan Remo make this celebration truly special.”

Governor Abiodun stressed that unity and self-help remain the foundation of Ilisan’s progress, saying, “Every community that has thrived did so because its people worked together for the common good. Ilisan Remo is a shining example of that truth.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Ogun State a hub for investment and tourism through strategic infrastructural development. “From the reconstruction of the Ilishan–Ilara–Akaka–Ode Remo Road to the ongoing development of the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport, we are opening up access, stimulating commerce, and creating jobs across our communities,” he said.

The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a catalyst for national growth. “The President’s economic reforms, infrastructural renewal, and food security drive continue to rekindle faith in our nation,” he said,

while appreciating the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her “impactful empowerment programmes that show when women and families are supported, society flourishes.”

The First Lady, represented by Mrs. Temitope Adeola, wife of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), praised the people of Ilisan for promoting unity and sustaining their cultural heritage.

She said, “Celebrations like Isanbi Day not only showcase our rich culture but also strengthen bonds of love and togetherness among our people.”

She commended Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun for aligning with the Federal Government’s women empowerment initiatives, urging women to embrace opportunities in agriculture and skills acquisition.

Also speaking, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun congratulated the Olofin and the people of Ilisan Remo on the 48th Isanbi Day, calling for sustained unity and development. “Ilisan’s greatness lies in our togetherness. Let us continue to love one another and build our community,” she said.

In his royal remarks, the Olofin of Ilisan Remo, HRH Oba (Dr.) Michael Sonuga, said the celebration was a call to deepen togetherness and promote peace. “No community can develop in an atmosphere of division. We must continue to live in love and mutual respect,” he urged.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ilisan Development Association, Aare Wemmy Olumide Osude, said the town’s progress depends on collective effort. “The future of Ilisan is not in the hands of one person. It rests on our shared resolve to build understanding, tolerance, and love,” he said.

The event attracted dignitaries including the First Ladies of Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, and Imo States, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, Mrs. Esther Aiyedatiwa, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, and Barr. Chioma Uzodimma.

Others were Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, former deputy governors of Ogun State, Alhaja Salmot Badru, and Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, among several others.

Most of whatever you say happens to be astonishingly accurate and that makes me ponder why I had not looked at this with this light previously. This particular piece truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this topic goes. However at this time there is 1 factor I am not too comfy with and whilst I make an effort to reconcile that with the central theme of the point, let me see exactly what the rest of the readers have to say.Very well done.
