The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has adopted Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate ahead of the party’s governorship primary for the 2027 election.

The development was contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Adviser to the senator, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, following an APC stakeholders and strategic meeting held at Adeola Yayi Hall, Ilaro, Ogun West Senatorial District.

At the meeting, Senator Adeola expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba and other party stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him as consensus candidate.

He pledged commitment to the party’s agenda and promised to consolidate on the achievements of the Abiodun administration if elected governor in 2027.

“I am indeed grateful for the honour of emerging as the consensus candidate of our party. I will not take the honour for granted and promise to continue to build on and consolidate on the milestone achievements of Prince Abiodun when elected in 2027,” Adeola was quoted as saying.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while officially presenting the consensus candidate to stakeholders after what he described as overwhelming affirmation by over 1,000 party members, commended the unity displayed by Ogun West leaders in arriving at a consensus arrangement.

He said Ogun State had set an example for other states in peaceful political consensus building ahead of elections.

“We in Ogun State set the pace that other states are still struggling to achieve when we unanimously agreed to have Senator Adeola as our consensus candidate for 2027. I am glad that all of you have reaffirmed our position,” the governor stated.

The meeting was attended by members of the APC State Working Committee from Ogun West, all APC Local Government and Ward Chairmen and their executives, Local Government Chairmen and Councillors from Ogun West, serving and former members of the State and National Assembly, as well as party elders across the senatorial district.

Dignitaries present included the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, former Deputy Governor, Alhaja Salmot Badru, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Senator Akin Odunsi, Senator Gbolahan Dada, Honourable Abiodun Akinlade, Honourable Gboyega Isiaka, Honourable Tunji Akinosi, Chief Iyabo Apampa, Dr. Kunle Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Services, Alhaji Musbau Ajibola, Chief Olu Agemo, and several other serving and former government officials from Ogun West Senatorial District.
