The Ogun State chapter of the BOOT Party has dismissed claims linking former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel to its legal action against Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, insisting that the court case was initiated independently and without external influence.
The party described as false reports suggesting that Daniel was using it as a proxy to challenge the Ogun West senator in court ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Addressing journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday, the Ogun State Chairman of the BOOT Party, Architect Abiodun Akerele, said there was no communication, collaboration or financial support from the former governor regarding the lawsuit.
He said, “Nothing transpired between us and Otunba Gbenga Daniel. He did not in any way contribute to whatever we are doing.”
Akerele added, “We have a case in court against Senator Olamilekan Yayi, not from Otunba Gbenga Daniel. We don’t know him in that case, and he doesn’t have anything to do with it.”
The clarification followed the circulation of an audio recording alleging that Daniel claimed responsibility for instituting the legal action against the senator through political proxies.
Explaining the basis for the suit, Akerele said the party was seeking judicial clarification on issues relating to the senator’s eligibility and public records, maintaining that anyone aspiring to govern Ogun State must be subjected to public scrutiny.
He said the case raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding Yayi’s exit from his previous employment, alleged inconsistencies in his official records, changes in his state of origin documentation across different election cycles, and compliance with statutory requirements for electoral documentation.
The BOOT Party chairman also rejected allegations that the party was being sponsored by political interests to undermine the senator’s ambition.
According to him, the party remains financially independent and committed to providing an alternative platform for the 2027 governorship election.
Akerele also unveiled Engr. Adekunle Adenuga as the party’s prospective governorship candidate, describing him as a successful professional with the experience and integrity to lead the state.
“We are bringing a candidate who is sincere, true, and a bonafide son of the soil. He is an engineer of repute who has succeeded across various sectors,” he said.
He also called for greater transparency in the management of public funds by the Ogun State Government, urging the administration to provide details of security vote expenditures and strengthen legislative oversight.
Akerele assured residents that the BOOT Party would continue to champion accountability, transparency and good governance as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
