The Corps Commander of Amotekun in Ogun State, Brig. Gen. A.I. Adedigba (rtd), has dismissed claims by online news platform Sahara Reporters that the state security outfit is underfunded by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

Describing the report as “malicious, misleading, and lacking in substance,” Adedigba asserted that Amotekun remains a critical component of the state’s security architecture and has received significant support from the government.

“Governor Abiodun was one of the first governors to inaugurate and empower Amotekun in his state,” he said.

“He has not only prioritized the security of Ogun residents but has also provided essential resources, including 10 brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles, to boost our operations.”

Refuting the claim that only ₦103 million was allocated to Amotekun in 2024, the Commander stated, “The actual figure stands at ₦731,770,793.53. In fact, for 2025, the Ogun State House of Assembly has approved an increase in our budget to ₦1.5 billion.”

He further highlighted the administration’s commitment by citing the construction of a new state headquarters, the renovation of the old secretariat office, and the drilling of a borehole to address water challenges.

He also noted that the government had recruited and trained an additional 750 personnel in 2024, covering their salaries from the first day in camp.

“In addition to this, Governor Abiodun recently approved another batch of 500 operatives, providing them with full kits and ensuring their salaries are cash-backed. How can anyone claim that Amotekun is neglected?” he questioned.

Adedigba emphasized that Amotekun’s operational capacity has improved through government-funded training programs, workshops, and intelligence-sharing collaborations with other security agencies.

“Just two weeks ago, the Governor handed over additional operational vehicles and power bikes to us, bringing our fleet to over 45 serviceable vehicles and 70 motorcycles. These investments show the government’s unwavering dedication to securing Ogun State,” he added.

He urged the public to disregard misleading reports and seek accurate information from verified sources.

“The government remains committed to transparency and accountability. All budget documents and allocations are publicly accessible for scrutiny,” Adedigba concluded.
