Concerned about the widespread devastation caused by recent natural disasters in Ogun State, the State House of Assembly has intensified efforts to ensure swift intervention and relief for affected communities.

During an interactive session at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, lawmakers engaged the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, along with management teams from other relevant agencies, to assess the extent of damage and discuss lasting solutions.

Led by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherif, the lawmakers emphasized the urgent need for immediate government intervention, insisting that relief efforts should not be delayed.

They also extended an invitation to the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs for a follow-up meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 12 noon.

The meeting will focus on strengthening emergency response measures for communities affected by rainstorms and fire outbreaks.

The lawmakers stressed the importance of a proactive approach to disaster management. “The relevant agencies must act swiftly to provide immediate succor to victims,” they said, stating the need for an efficient and coordinated relief effort.

Responding to concerns raised, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Arigbabu, assured that the State Government was already addressing the repairs of school buildings damaged by the windstorm.

He noted that under the Ogun REHAB scheme, the Ministry had commenced maintenance and rehabilitation efforts to prevent structural collapses.

Similarly, the Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Wale Sonde, highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts in providing relief materials to affected residents across the state.

Other officials present at the meeting included the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, and the Board Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Mukail Lawal.
