The Ogun State House of Assembly has received a formal notification from the former Deputy Minority Leader and member representing Abeokuta South One State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Atobatele, announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and his defection to the All Progressives Congress.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, read the lawmaker’s letter during plenary on Tuesday, where Atobatele attributed his decision to what he described as internal crises, leadership disputes, and the absence of a clear direction within the PDP at both the national and state levels.

In the letter, Atobatele explained that his action was guided by the interest of his constituents.

He stated that, “as the representative of Abeokuta South Constituency One, my priority is to ensure my constituents benefit from a stable and progressive political platform.”

He added that his decision to join the APC would enable him to “collaborate more effectively with the government and advance the development agenda” of his constituency.

Reacting to the defection, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide, said he hoped and prayed that the lawmaker’s stay in his new political party would justify the reasons behind his decision.

He also reiterated that members of the Assembly, regardless of party affiliation, remained one united legislative family committed to working together in harmony for the development of Ogun State.

The Speaker further assured that the House would continue to uphold cooperation, mutual respect, and collective responsibility in the discharge of its legislative duties.
