The Ogun State House of Assembly has directed the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to tackle the persistent problem of indiscriminate parking under the Kuto Flyover in Abeokuta.
The directive aims to restore traffic order, enhance public safety, and improve vehicle flow around the busy Kuto Roundabout.
The instruction was given by the Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriations, chaired by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, during the ongoing 2026 budget defence sessions with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The Committee identified driving against traffic and uncontrolled passenger loading and offloading as key causes of gridlock at the location.
The Assembly also urged the Ministry of Transportation to align developments at the Gateway Airport with Ogun State’s economic agenda, stressing that the project should boost investment, connectivity, and revenue.
In response, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Olugbenga Dairo, revealed plans for a State-owned airline, cargo flight operations, and an aircraft maintenance facility at the Gateway Airport, alongside an existing partnership with ValueJet Airline.
Other agencies defending their 2026 budgets before the Committee included TRACE, led by Acting Commander Mr. Elias Omonayajo, Gateway Airport under Mr. Dapo Olumide, and the Vehicle Inspection Office headed by Mr. Ademeyin Olugboyega.
The Assembly also reviewed budget proposals from the Ministries of Community Development and Cooperatives, Rural Development, the Assembly Service Commission, and the Offices of the Auditor-General for the State and local governments.
