The 5th Children’s Parliament of Ogun State has called on the government to take urgent and decisive steps to end child abuse, neglect and exploitation across the state.
Meeting in the Chambers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, the young legislators passed a resolution demanding stronger enforcement of laws protecting children’s rights.
The sitting, presided over by the Children’s Speaker, Hon. Ezekiel Favour Olaoluwa (Ifo), was attended by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elemide Oludaisi Olusegun.
The motion was sponsored by Hon. Faridah Odusola (Ijebu-Ode) and co-sponsored by Hon. Ogbu Theresa (Odeda), Hon. Maksudah Mudashiru (Abeokuta South), Hon. Makinde Enoch (Ado-Odo/Ota) and Hon. Olaleye Onaoluwa (Abeokuta North), among others.
They presented compelling arguments backed by statistics to stress the urgency of protecting children from harm.
During the plenary, members of the parliament urged the government to strengthen its measures and ensure strict compliance with existing laws, noting that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment.
