In recognition of outstanding academic excellence, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has named Samuel Badekale and Haroun Adebakin, the best graduating students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at its 55th convocation, as Education Ambassadors of the state.

The governor also presented them with cheques of N10 million each as a reward for their remarkable achievement.

Receiving the duo at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Abiodun lauded their exceptional feat of attaining a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0, describing it as a testament to their diligence, resilience, and academic discipline.

“I want to commend you for bringing great honor to yourselves, your families, and Ogun State,” the governor said. “Achieving a 5.0 GPA is no small feat. It is proof of your dedication and a demonstration of the Ogun State spirit of excellence.”

As part of his administration’s efforts to inspire younger generations, Abiodun announced their appointment as Education Ambassadors, tasking them with mentoring and motivating students across the state.

“We will be developing programs that will allow you to engage with students in schools, guiding and inspiring them,” he stated. “It is one thing for me to speak to them, but you, being closer in age and having walked their path, can connect with them on a deeper level.”

The governor emphasized that his government remains committed to celebrating and supporting individuals who bring honor to the state in their respective fields.

He assured the scholars of continued assistance in their career pursuits, urging them to maintain their excellence as they step into the next phase of their lives.

“But today, we will be supporting you with small cheques of N10 million each—just a token of our appreciation for your hard work and the pride you have brought to Ogun State,” he added.

Abiodun highlighted education as a crucial tool for success and a means to eradicate poverty. According to him, academic achievements such as those of Badekale and Adebakin provide a strong foundation for future opportunities.

“Education gives you the platform to apply for jobs, further studies, and global opportunities. It is the passport that opens doors,” he noted.

Commending the parents of the awardees, the governor acknowledged the sacrifices they made in raising disciplined and focused children.

He assured them that their investment in their children’s education would continue to yield rewards.

In response, Adebakin and Badekale expressed profound gratitude to the governor for the recognition and financial support.

They described the gesture as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to academic excellence and youth empowerment.

“This honor is not just for us, but for every hardworking student out there,” they said. “Our message to the youth is clear: focus on your studies, uphold integrity, and avoid shortcuts. Success is possible without engaging in fraudulent or illicit activities.”

The duo pledged to use their ambassadorial roles to inspire other students, encouraging them to pursue excellence and contribute positively to society.
