The Ogun State Government has taken custody of a two-day-old baby found abandoned at Sayedero Market in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, made this known while reacting to a viral video suggesting the baby had gone missing after being rescued.
Adeleye explained that the child was rescued by a good Samaritan who alerted the police. After due documentation, the baby was transferred to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
“The child was rescued and taken to the police station. It was the police that contacted the Ministry, and after proper documentation, the child was released to us,” she said.
She described the video as misleading, saying the person making the claims was not truthful. Adeleye added that the baby is in good condition and under proper care.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to warn against illegal adoption, stating that every rescued child in Ogun State belongs to the Governor until legal procedures are completed.
